Vashon Cages the Orting Cardinals

John Gage gets a few unhelpful hands as he shoots for two points.
The Pirates were ready to return to their winning ways and the Orting Cardinals were the first to fall victim. Although the Cardinals showed determination by being down only two points at the end of the first quarter, Vashon 13 and Orting 11. Gage dominated the first quarter and for the game matched his season high of 31 points.
Alex Wegner, Quinn Holert and John Gage added firepower in the second quarter carrying the lead to Vashon 26, Orting 21, but Orting was still in the hunt at halftime.
Refreshed, refocused and determined, the Pirates returned for the second half to put on a shooting and defensive display. Only one minute into the quarter, Gage made a steal and took the ball in for a slamdunk, plus the resulting free throw from being fouled. That was the ignition for a huge cheer from the bleachers and put the Pirates on full power offensively and defensively. We love those dunks. Steals were being turned into fast breaks and more lay-ups. Gage was hitting nothing but net. Aggressive rebounding found missed Pirate shots being put back in the hoop. The Orting Cardinals were overwhelmed and without an answer. By the end of the third quarter the Pirates had outscored Orting, 17 to 5 resulting in the score of Vashon 43, Orting 26.
The fourth quarter found solid contributions from the bench with Amick blocking shots, rebounding and making a nice put-back off a rebound. Holert and Weston found their way to the basket for lay-ups and Wegner continued his strong performance on capturing rebounds and jump shots. Every Pirate had playing time and made good contributions on defense and ball handling.
Pirate Points vs. Orting:
Gage 31, Wegner 11, Holert 6, Amick, 2, Kerns 2, Weston 2, Hasson 1, Stoffer 1, Griffin, Hazzard, Lofland, Williamson
