Mayhem Unleashed on Life Christian

Coach Sears wanted his team to unleash mayhem on Tuesday, at Life Christian. He challenged his boys, who had already won the league crown, to “Get after ‘em…like dogs!” Woof! The Pirates attacked early, with baskets by John Gage from 12 feet and a lay-in off a fast break by Max Burnham and never trailed the whole game. The Eagles took advantage of several early Pirate misses, though, and tied it at 4 apiece midway through the first. But the “woof” returned as Vashon scrapped for boards and harassed the Eagles for turnovers. A 15-0 Pirate run, highlighted by a Gage breakaway dunk, put Vashon firmly in control by the end of the quarter, 19-7.
Elias Weston came off the bench to start the second quarter and soon made his presence known, hitting a 12 foot runner. The Pirates used their height advantage to out-rebound Life Christian and alter or reject several Eagle shot attempts. Still, the Eagles managed to trade baskets with the Pirates to stay within 12 by the half, 35-23.
The Pirates finally pulled away in the third quarter. Great defensive pressure forced more Eagle turnovers. Late in the quarter, Pirate senior Charlie Hoffman forced an Eagle turnover on the defensive end after having just had a tough put-back on the offensive end. The Pirates finished the quarter with a 50-30 lead.
Vashon continued to push the ball throughout the fourth quarter. Turnovers, including steals by Burnham and Wegner, were cashed in for fast break points. A late putback by Michael Stoffer, followed by 2 for 2 from the line, completed a solid outing. Final score, 69-40.
Pirate Points vs Life Christian: Gage 16, Timm-Skove 14, Wegner 12, Chris Pieterick 8, Quinn Holert 6, Stoffer 5, Burnham 4, Hoffman 2, Weston 2, Matt Kerns, Odin Jacobovitch.
